The beginning
My connection with plants and nature began long before Organic Garrotxa existed.
I was born in Suriname, where many of my childhood memories are rooted in nature. We often spent time outside the city at places like Cola Kreek and Zanderij — swimming in the creeks, surrounded by forest, and falling asleep to the sounds of the jungle at night. Those early experiences created a deep sense of connection with the natural world.
Over the years life took me across different places, including the Netherlands and Qatar. During my time in Qatar I studied Ayurveda and developed a deeper interest in plants, herbs and natural preparations. I also trained as a natural nutrition advisor.
Plants slowly became part of daily life — experimenting with herbal drinks, infusions and natural creams, originally made for myself and my family. Even today my son still uses the hair creams I started making years ago.
Finding La Garrotxa
By chance we discovered a piece of land in La Garrotxa, a volcanic region in northern Catalunya known for its fertile soils and extraordinary biodiversity.
During the Covid period we found ourselves living in La Garriga, where Organic Garrotxa truly began to take shape. I started preparing small batches of herbal infusions and sharing them with local shops. The response was incredibly encouraging and made me realise this small project could grow into something more.
Growing Organic Garrotxa
Today Organic Garrotxa continues to grow as a botanical project rooted in the land.
Our plants are cultivated on our land in La Garrotxa, while we currently live and organise distribution from Malla. Over the past year we built a small production space on the land where we will soon begin producing our preparations more fully.
The vision is to slowly expand our botanical work — creating infusions, extracts, tinctures, natural creams, essential oils and botanical salts, all prepared in small batches and with respect for the plants and the landscape.
Looking Forward
Organic Garrotxa is still evolving.
Beyond botanical preparations, we hope to create a space where people can reconnect with plants and nature through small workshops and retreats in La Garrotxa.
The project continues to grow season by season, guided by curiosity, plants and the land that supports them.
