Rosemary is native to the dry, rocky areas of the Mediterranean, especially along the coast. Its genus name, Rosmarinus, is derived from the Latin for “dew” (ros) and “belonging to the sea” (marinus) in reference to the warm Mediterranean region of its origin.

Rosemary has been used since the time of the early Greeks and Romans, its medicinal history spanning centuries. Today, the herb is still used by many as a tea to treat sore throats, head colds and to freshen bad breath.

High in antioxidant, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory compounds, rosemary tea also contains compounds that may help lower high blood sugar levels by exerting insulin-like effects and boosting the absorption of glucose into muscle cells.

Both smelling and drinking rosemary tea have been shown to reduce anxiety, boost mood, and improve concentration and memory whereas compounds in rosemary tea may protect the health of your brain — both from injury and impairment as well as from ageing and neurodegenerative diseases - and can help protect your vision as you age by slowing the progression and severity of diseases like cataracts and age-related macular degeneration. Rosemary tea may also contain compounds that benefit your heart and digestive health, support weight loss, and even help treat hair loss.
